Originally, Yosemite was visited by arriving on horseback or (later) by stagecoach. This is the second of a series of posts that will reveal details of the early buildings in and around the valley; where they were, who ran them, what was around them.


Yosemite: The Four Mile Trail…

This trail was carved out in the early 1870s by James McCauly who got a contract from the state to put a toll road up to Glacier Point and build a Hotel. Going up and down, it is a strenuous 9 mile hike, but going down (which I did), it is classified as an easy, 2 ½ hour hike.
