George Fiske – Photographer (1835-1918)

George Fiske was an early photographer of Yosemite and the first one to live full time at Yosemite Valley. Like so many photographers of that era, not many of his images survive to this day; just a few prints and stereoscopic cards. Twentieth century photographer Ansel Adams held him in high regard.


The Night Sky at Yosemite

The night sky was my primary interest on my recent trip to Yosemite. There are two major challenges to such photos. One is focusing in the dark and the other is avoiding people and cars with their lights on.

This was a quick trip to Yosemite for an assignment. Primarily for night sky photos, I also visited some of the standard haunts. I was gratified to see and meet Lee Stetson, who, has for over 35 years, portrayed John Muir at the park.

Of all the people to photograph Yosemite, one name stands out as the quintessential Yosemite photographer; Ansel Adams.
